My car :-(

It's getting too much now :-(

My car's leaking gearbox oil now, and I just topped it up with 300ml. It's the drive shaft gater. I'm going to order another one ASAP.

On Thursday some idiot tried to steal my car too, but fortunately didn't get in. They messed up the paintwork around my lock and dented the lock slightly. The lock still works and I've touched up the paint work now. It's not worth an insurance claim though because it wouldn't save me any money with excess and the increase in future premiums. btw, it has been reported to the police. What I want to know is why did they go for a car with an 899cc engine? I had just painted the stone chips on the door and polished it, maybe that attracted them to the car? I'm supprised they didn't go for an older car without an immoboliser though :-o.

I got an ignition coil from a scrap yard today, it had done 7,000 miles in a 1.1 Sei. It hasn't stopped my pinking though, it may be slightly better. It cost me £25 :-( I don't know what to do next, I'm thinking about selling the car :-(.

I wanted to join the IAM over the next few weeks, but I can't really do it if my car's not working properly :-(

Oh yeah, I checked my plug gaps with FIAT and they are supposed to be

0.8mm, not 0.6mm like my workshop manual says. My car's booked in for a recal on Thursday to have the fuel tank change, but that's free. I also got a price for oil at Fiat, £9.99+VAT for 2l :-o. They said they recommend 10W40, but my owners manual says 15W40. I'm probably going to go for 10W40 because I can get it cheaper and it's probably best for short trips or cold weather.

How does gearbox oil get into the driveshaft gaiter? Surely some mistake.

It's what you call 'quality italian design'. The inner cv boot attaches directly to the gearbox, with a bearing + oil seal on the opposite end where the drive shaft comes out.

C'mon, who was it? Trying to deprive us all of a laugh...

Stonechips on the door? Too much sideways action on gravel, Peter...

Awwwwww........ What will we do for entertainment then?

Well, you can do for all the good it will do, but the boot is only a dust cover. There's a seal on the driveshaft that's failed.

Ah, of course. My mind's too highly tuned to think down to such a level.

Shame they didn't slash the tyres.

No, I don't drive on gravel. They were going rusty too :-(

If it's like the old Uno, I'm afraid not!

The driveshaft end is a tripode joint that fits straight into a cage on the output of the diff in the gearbox.

The gaiter is the dust and oil seal, all in one!

Pete.

Oh, do f*ck off with this attention-seeking s**te.

The stonechips won't rust as the body is galvanised..... I drove a Cinq. through a winter in the Welsh valleys (ie. lots of corrosion promoting salt and slush) after I'd pranged every panel down the offside. Didn't rust _at all_.

My dad replaced it for me today while I was at work :-D. It cost £6 plus £17 of gearbox oil from halfrauds :-(. It was £8.45 for a litre of oil, that's expesnive isn't it?

Expensive for engine oil. OK for gearbox oil.

Tell BMW. 12 quid a litre for their fully synth engine oil.

Didn't a sign drop on it, so he had it resprayed or something? Reeks of badly resprayed IMO. The one thing that impressed me about a Punto I had a while back, was that where it'd been chipped, it hadn't rusted, and hadn't gone down to bare metal. Whatever primer they use must be bloody resiliant. Engine wasn't bad, but not impressive, before you chip in :D.

A sign did drop on it, but that's at the back, on the other side of the car. The damage from the sign isn't too bad other than a scuff and small dent. I decided to live with the damage because I haven't got time to get the work done :-(. The door had three patches of rust and there may've been a few patches on the bonnet. The paintwork on my door does look a bit poor though :-(

On this particular door, near the top, there are a few 'lines'. It looks as if somebody used a paint brush as the paint was drying, you can feel them with your fingers. Further along there are a few circules as if somebody kept prodding it as it was drying with something the size of a 1p coin. There also seems to be a few more bits of dirt in the paint then there is on the other panels :-(. Oh and on the windscreen seal there's a bit of blue paint, this wouldn't happen in the factory would it? Is this a sign of a respray?

Oh, I'm glad it wasn't too expensive! BMW's worse than FIAT! My dad's got a Vaxhaul and he says they're cheap, he paid about £4 for an oil filter and I think the oil's pretty cheap there too.

Only saving grace with the BMW is the approx 15k service intervals.

It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember petermcmillan snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com (Peter) saying something like:
