Renaul Laguna engine idle 2500 - 5000 RPM?

I have a Renault Laguna 1.8 Expression 2003 (53 plate) that starts ok but after approx 3 minutes while driving the engine starts to judder, a light with a coil and a line through it lights up on the dash, when i come to a stop the engine idles between 2500 and 5000 rpm, occasionally the engine management light comes on. If i stop the engine and start it up again its's ok until i start to drive it again and then the problem starts again. The local Renault garage have had a look at the car and can't find a problem, this is costing me money for something that is not getting resolved, is there anyone out there who has had this issue before that can shed some light on this problem? Many thanks in advance for advice received...

Do you mean 2500 to 5000 rpm? Because that is very fast and not consistent with the other stuff you mention.

If you actually mean 250 to 500 rpm (too slow) and running very rough, then the suspects will be plugs first and then coil pack/packs.

Yes i do mean 2500 to 5000, the car judders when using the accelerator i.e.when driving, but revs very high when supposidly idling.

a massive air leak would be the first thing to investigate. (a split pipe maybe) EGR valve stuck open is the next .
