You better ask him then!
Renaults do have a habit of loosing sync with the key and immobilzer. Its a dealer job to 're-align' them i'm afriad.

Autodata 2004 says: Take the cover off the key head, you should see a number. If it is 5 digits, the key should not need programming. If it's 8 digits, put the key in the ignition - don't turn it on, and press the central locking button for more than 5 seconds. Otherwise the OP is right, it's a dealer job.
