Replacing battery in old(er) BMW

My friend has a duff 71Ah Varta battery in an M reg BMW 3 series. Halfords do a £95 replacement but is there any problem in just replacing it in this model? The car is located in a barn in the Highlands 60 odd miles from the nearest Halfords.

Google mutters about reseting some diagnostic to tell the car about Ah etc but not sure if that applies to his model?

Don't think so. I've replaced one on an '00 3 Series without problems. But got an OEM Bosch - the battery is clamped in place and needs to be pretty similar physically to fit, which a Halfords one may not be.

If you want a Bosch battery far cheaper that the Halfords one, go to GSF Car Parts.

Worth also checking Costco for Bosch - if you have a card.
