Update: The 2.8 Capri with the rough tick over.

Hi All,

Chummy with the Capri that wouldn't tickover got some more time on it yesterday morning and using my old compression tester found (from memory):

1 - 130 2 - 120 3 - 130 4 - 120 5 - 70 6 - 30

I popped in yesterday evening and he was putting all the bits back on after adjusting the clearances (he confirmed there was no clearance on

6).

He ran it up briefly last night and said it seemed much happier to tick over at 900 rpm now. ;-)

He was going to take it out for a run this morning just to make sure it's ok once it's all warmed up / settled down.

So, 10/10 to Mrcheerful who mentioned the tappets in the first reply and thanks to everyone else who also mentioned such and all the other handy tips.

Now he's got his Capri running properly he can sell the BMW. ;-)

Thanks again guys.

p.s. Anyone know why the speedo and fuel gauge (in case they are linked) don't work on his diesel transit? I believe the speedo is electronic and he's swapped it for a spare but no luck. Would that suggest a power feed problem to those two functions (if the feed was common). I'm not sure he's had much time on it, just a background question from me in case it's a common problem with a less than obvious solution etc. ;-)
