Rover 214 Starting

Well only yesterday I was talking on here about my coolant and found this morning I couldn't start my car at all.

Engine turned over at first but didn't fire up. No problem I thought - it's been raining for 24 hrs and it sometimes gets damp. A quick blast of WD40 and I'm away. But not this time - turned over again. And again....and I pressed the accelorator a bit to try and coax the thing into life. Now it doesn't even turn over, engine's just dead. I can hear the ignition making its electrical sound, but the engine doesn't turn or fire.

I would assume the battery is OK but I'm going to try and jumpstart it tomorrow just in case.

Failing that any other ideas? Starter motor, ECU? I don't know I'm not a mechanic :-(

Battery flat- if all lights extinguish when you turn to start..

If the lights stay lit and dont dim appreciabley when you try to start- then you have a fault with the starter or getting power to the starter.

It's a 1994 M-reg SEi. For info - had the breakdown co out tonight and it's the starter motor - he says that the wires have burnt out. Bump started it with no problems, so I'll do that in the morning and run it to the Rover garage that I use in Bradford.
