Rover 25 1.6 iffy starting

Hi

My latest Rover has a strange, well strange to me, little problem. It's more intriguing that a major issue.

About one in three first time starts in the morning, the engine just spins, however long you keep going. Then when you make a second attempt, it always fires up immediately.

I have not noticed any similar problem on subsequent restarts throughout the day.

Are there any suggestions - apart from ditching a Rover ! - on what to have a look at ?

Cheers Andy C

have a good listen for the fuel pump coming on, turn the ignition on and you should hear the pump run for about two seconds and stop, if it doesn't it won't go. turning off and on again the relay may thump in a bit harder and it goes. so if it is that, then you probably need a new or cleaned fuel pump relay. Worth a check in your case I would think.

Thanks for the hint. I've taken the lazy option and swapped the pump relay with the blower one. I'll see how it goes over the next few days.
