Rover 75 Brakes?

Hi

Just got hold of a 2001 Rover 75 Tourer Diesel with 57k miles on the clock (don't laugh ;-)

It drives ok but the brakes seem to have some sort of quick pulsing pedal feedback; it doesn't feel like a warped disk but I could be wrong. The car has some sort of fancy braking system that I thought might also be the cause.

Any opinions?

Thanks in advance

some cars have a fuse for the abs etc, find it and remove. Then have a quick drive. This will rule out abs playing up and confirm a warped disc.

Warped disk's, 99% sure.

Make sure the calipers at the front are not ceased.

I'm certainly not laughing. I own a 12 month old 75 diesel tourer and have no regrets about the purchase at all (especially as my dealer is honouring the remainder of the warranty!). The 75 is a superb car with a high proportion of BMW sourced parts (the diesel engine is a BMW engine of course). It always got good reviews and is always well placed in customer satisfaction surveys (in the Auto Express 2005 Driver Power Survey it came higher placed than the Merc C class, the BMW 3 series, the Audi A4 and A6 and most of the repmobiles). It came first out of 100 for ride quality and that is one of my main reasons for buying.

Wasn't your previous experience that the warranty was pretty much essential? ( :-) )

My first 75 was undoubtedly a rogue. It had a fuel system problem that no-one (not even an independent diesel engine specialist) could resolve. The fuel pressure sensor in the common rail kept failing (nine times!) but no-one could work out just why. This was not a problem that anyone seemed to have come across before and so I was not concerned about buying another 75 diesel. In the end, because of the hassle, I was given an extremely generous trade-in offer against a pre-registered tourer that I couldn't refuse! So far, touch wood, after nine months and 11k miles, the new car is running perfectly and has not required any warranty attention! I think with any make of car there is always the chance of coming across a rogue like this - although less chance with Japanese methinks! Pity none of the japs make diesel autos in the Mondeo class.
