I have a question that's been bugging me. Somebody in the other threadsaid that there car is still being run in after more than 100,000miles. What I want to know is how can you tell? What's the differencebetween run in, 'normal', and on it's way out?I know what running in is etc, but it's all on the inside, and youcan't really see it. How can you tell whether it's run in? Alsopeople say that if you run a new car on fully synth it'll never be runin. Doesn't that mean it'll never wear out, or does it mean that it'llwear out quicker, but will never run 'nicely'?

Manufacturers usually advise that cars should not be driven hard for the first couple-of-thousand miles to allow moving parts to 'bed-in' - the running-in period. The guy who wrote about his car still being run in at 100,000 miles simply means that his car runs sweetly, is one well-known for long engine life, and that he fully expects it to do another 100,000 miles without trouble.

My land rover (1984 diesel) has covered 229000 miles and still going strong. Wifes saab is high (I forget how high) but still runs like new.
