And I don't see any reason why obscene language should be used on a newsgroup, any more than I would expect to see or hear it in front of the children in any other context.

It might not appear to be rocket science to you or I, but at school we didn't cover the conversion from litres to gallons. I may not know how many litres there are to a gallon. Fuel is sold in metric, mileage is covered in Imperial, fuel consumption is often measured in that funky litres per hundred kilometres scale. It's not quite as simple as it could be.

At the end of the day, you didn't have to respond, just as I didn't have to read your response.

You dont have to. You could simply have not replied at all, your reaction was totally unjustified.

Today I went on a train. I heard people swearing on that train. Would you therefore never take your children on trains? I also walked down the street today and heard people using similar language. So do you therefore shield your kids from this by never letting them walk down the street of any busy town or city?

Now here's a mad idea - educate your kids to be aware of things going on that they shouldn't replicate themselves, rather than wrapping them in cotton wool for ever more and just pretending it doesn't happen.

Whatever happened to encouraging Children (and adults, for that matter) to actually think for themselves? If we encourage people to ask questions about every stupid little thing, then we'll soon be breeding a nation of idiots. Actually, hold on.........

How does asking a question to widen your knowledge equate to breeding a nation of idiots? We only breed a nation of idiots if we refuse to answer questions when asked, even more so of we answer in such an offensive manner that the person will be discouraged from asking anything else.

interesting about the optimax there. I was going to do something smilar and see if i get any mpg incraese out of it.

I did the same thing. I got a small statistically significant correlation between the mpg on a fill and the % Optimax in the tank. Not enough to cover the difference in cost, though.

In all fairness I didn't carry the Optinmax testing on for long enough however it was certainly looking like the differences were within the variation I was getting between runs on standard unleaded anyway so I'm confident it wasn't benefitting me.

In essence, a spreadsheet is a computer programming language which resembles reality enough that we can more easily get our minds around it. Just using a spreadsheet suggests the original poster has something a little more complicated, and potentially more useful, in mind.

For instance, building up a table of milage records matched to fuel fill quantities. This is a step up from the simple calculator (or even hand- arithmetic) model you seem fixed on.

Kids are exposed to swearing from the TV and computer hames/magazines from an early age. You're living in cloud cookoo land if you believe any different.

I'm all for the asking of questions but to ask a question which so obviously shows the enquirer hasn't even bothered in the slightest to try and work it out drives me mad.
