Starting / battery problems

I've been having problems recently with the car failing to start, presumably due to a flat battery. It hasn't been completely devoid of power, but when you turn the key you get a grinding noise.

This has happened twice recently, both times when I've been away on holiday. On the last occasion the car was left for 2 nights and then failed to start. The previous occasion it was only left overnight and failed to start the following morning. Both times it easily bump started, then subsequent starts have been fine. It should have been fully charged as on both occasions I'd driven a couple of hundred miles before parking.

The only thing I can see that connects the two occasions is the use of my TomTom SatNav, could it be somehow preventing the battery from charging when I'm driving, or even draining the battery? Everything is unplugged when the car is parked. Presumably even if the sat nav is causing a problem then it is still something in the car that needs fixing? But what?

I've never had problems when parking the car for several days at home, as I don't use the sat nav apart from on holidays.

I bascially need some general advice on how to approach this with the garage, as the car is still under warranty. This had happened previously about 2 years ago but the garage just said that the battery didn't have much charge and just needed charging up, they had no idea how it got that way.

The car is a 2004 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Petrol.

Multiple possibilities. Being a 2004, though, it will still be in warranty. Chuck it back at Ford.
