Too good to be true?

I would look around the body for diff signs of paint colour, never had that car but know people who have, looked a great bargin, usually bullet proof from what i heard but i saw signs of major panel replacments.

See if it pulls under accel or braking.

That'll be the V6, a dude I know tried to sell one for ages for 3k but ended up with arround 2k. Don't think they are too popular.

This area of cars is a difficult one to sell, they are too old for the expensive car dept. and too thirsty/dear to run for the economy car brigade. It is extremely possible to get a real bargain in this class. However, do bear in mind that if it has not been serviced properly and if the last owners have been animals, then it might well need real money spending on it. Many people buy a car like this, some things start to go wrong, so rather than spend , they just out them and get something else.

So, you may get a bargain, or a lemon. Either way, allow your budget again for first year expenses. If something really major goes then you might have to scrap it and start again, unless you have mechanical knowledge and good scrapyards near. I usually steer people onto something big and Japanese, although these can be problematic too, but they resist bad driving better.

It's a big old automatic. It's a decade old - not respectable in the company car park. It's an Audi - so (according to common logic) expensive to run. And it's an automatic.

Sounds like the price is just right to me, unless it's a Quattro or Avant/Estate.

Tad pricey if anything, they're two generations out of date, if you're dumb enough to let Audi service them they're quite expensive to run, if you use an independent I've found them v.cheap & reliable. CHeck out autotrader.co.uk

That's a lot of money for one of those now unless it's perfect in every way. Even though it's a 2.6 V6 it's not fast, I think they were only 150-160 bhp, and they drink petrol like it's going out of fashion. Nice cars, on my list of cars to have when they get down to £600 or so, nice winter car I would imagine.

Hmm, well they now appear to have dropped the asking down to 1,995 (not even talked to them yet).

Now seriously wondering if they'd give me a trade-in on a 96 Escort 1.3 and/or how low it will go. If I see 1500 or less I think my hand may be forced :)
