Still more inconvenient.. Removing the wheel, dropping it off, then picking it up and refitting it. My way was the easy way. The lazy way. Maybe it will cost me a few quid more, but that doesn't bother me. Besides that, I know it's highly unlikely, but I don't like the idea of getting a puncture without a spare. Mike.

I just took mine to ATS. He said 9.99+vat for the repair (if it was repairable), and it would take 15-20 mins. After he had finished (a 25mm long screw stuck in. Removed with pliers, although I would have used a screwdriver!), he said he would not charge me, and when I needed some tyres to come around.

Now I don't know if this is a global sales policy to make you feel obliged to get your tyres there, or a local (managers discretion) one, or if he couldn't be arsed to write out the bill. It was a Saturday morning at 11:00 with no other customers in (he says the rain stops people coming in) with 2 lads gone into town, and the other bloke sat in the staff canteen, so I would have thought they would want the money today.

How much is a can of tyreweld? You could atlways ask them to swap the spare for you if you don't want to wait around.

I sometimes do jobs for free, three possible reasons: goodwill for regular customers or I don't want to guarantee the job (quite possible on a puncture) or I did it out of personal interest and wanted to play with the vehicle.
