I bought this car 1 month ago from Arnold Clark. I now find it hard to select first gear,it just keeps going into 3rd. The garage reckons this is not a warrenty fault. Can any one give advice? or do you know if this is a common fault? Thanks.

Well return it & demand your money back then. Preferably noisily in the showroom. If you can't emgage 1st it's hardly fit for purpose.
Hi Ian, I cannot help with the fault but can echo the likes of
Hopefully it is just a simple linkage adjustment.

Bullshit. Tell them in no uncertain terms that this is a mechanical fault and you consider it is covered by warranty (unless you have a warranty which does not cover mechanical faults). Unscrupulous dealers will fob off customers unless they are prepared to make a fuss, so if necessary make one and make it in the sales area when they have lots of prospective customers around.

Yes it's a common problem with Arnold Clark
Anything the garage decides isn't covered by warranty? Yes.
Uses the same gearlinkage as the previous shape Corsa, who's gearlinkage often fell to pieces- very well known about. There is an improved linkage set up that cures this.
Back to garage and make some noise.
Tim..
What Tim said. Although what engine is it? The 1.7cdti diesels use cables, whereas everything else used the gearlinkage with associated balljoints that used to wear/fall apart.
