Vibraton

Got a problem with vibration on braking between 40-45mph,above and below it it's fine just when the speedo hits those speeds,it's on a 94-mondeo

1800petrol,

Its had 2sets of pads/discs now in the last month, new tyres all round+balancing, new drums, droplinks, arms are fine, anti roll bar bushes all round, new bearings front/back,rear shoes,

Vertually replaced all suspension front/back,do you think a trac-rod would cause this?as i haven't replaced the n/s/f but have the os? Any ideas folks.

a worn steering rack can cause this, assuming you have eliminated the usual suspects

mondy will,it's just passed it's m.o.t and they never said nothing, What about front shocks?would that be an option?

shocks? Not unless they have sideways play.

There is an inherent 'wobble' speed of each size of wheel, which when the car reaches that speed tends to accentuate any small amount of play. Under braking the steering system gets a lot of extra pressure put on it by resisting the natural urge of the wheels to flip in or out. I suggest the rack and all steering components should be checked very carefully for slack starting from the actual motion of the steering wheel to the column to the wheels (should be none) likewise check for in / out /up/down movement of the rack from each wheels perspective also check the rack mounting rubbers (it probably has them, but I can't remember) especially the track rod ends (inner and outer). Tiny amounts of play are not always an mot failure, but can show up to the driver as a shake.

If the tyres are not good quality ones, then try and borrow a known good pair and try it again, you may be surprised.

Another possible cause would be run-out on a wheel. I've currently got exactly this problem on my Saab 9-3. I've been scratching my head for a bit, but recently I had a couple of new tyres and the fitter pointed out that one of my alloys is decidedly wobbly (looked like around

5-10mm of run-out to me) If I can get hold of a new one, I should be able to test the theory.

Cheers,

Colin.

Could be onto somthing here,i had the spare tyre changed when i had 4-new tyres fitted and fitted it to the car and put the best to spare,so maybe the spare wheel is out? Only trouble is i dont know which one it is.

Thanks

swap the backs to the front, that would eliminate that possibility
