Volvo V70 electrical

Hi all

Battery goes flat after car has been standing for a couple of days

Battery is known to be good

I think likely causes to be diode pack on alternator or a central locking solenoid problem causing a drain

How to check?

Any thoughts?

Decent DVM (upto 10amps will do) hooked between positive lead and positive battery terminal. With the car locked, and alarm set you should see maybe

500miliamps max on the DVM.

As you expect, you'll probably have 1 or 2 amps showing, so pull out fuses from the main fuse box one at a time until the reading drops to virtually nothing. You may find its the glovebox light sticking on- the switch plunger on the lid can be broken by something jamming in the hinge.

If you get all the fuses out and still cant find the discharge, then unbolt the charging lead at the alternator (not hard on the petrol engines) and re check. (be careful not to allow this lead to short to earth- wrap some tape around the ring terminal during testing)
