Why roof rails?

It's fascinating - there's almost as much hatred here regarding roof racks as JC has towards caravans!

My Dad had a rack - clamped on the gutters of the old Fiat 131 (spit). I always though they were a good idea for certain uses...

I suppose the dissers have never used anything like it... I agree, trailers are a great boon. I'd love one, especially to shift house renovating crap to the dump (4' are permitted on production of a free permit round my way) and I even have a detachable towbar fitted just in case...

But I haven't seen a good second hand one yet that's cheap... Until then, the roof rails have saved me much hassle.

Good cheap 2nd hand ones are rare ( I use braked ones & I've yet to see a

2nd hand one that would have cost less than a new one by the time I'd fixed it).

Ha! I had a roof rack on my lovely Fiat 132 1800 GLS Twin Cam and all that. I filled the car and roof with some stuff; funny how the car started dipping in the middle, especially after you opened the doors.
