Windscreen replacement on insurance ?

I was on the motorway earlier and heard a stone impact... no immediate=20 damage visible, but upon returning to my car later it had opened into a=20

12" crack from the bottom of the drivers' side and going into the wiper=20 path of the screen (I think that automatically qualifies it for an MOT=20 failure, but I wouldn't want to leave it like that anyway).

I'm with esure - does anyone know how the windscreen replacement /=20 repair service they offer works ? Is there an upper limit on the repair=20 cost ? (I think some set a =A350 maximum fee for the repair, but i've=20 never needed to have one done before - the policy docs just give a=20 freephone number to ring)

I need the car later on tonight, so its not worth me ringing until=20 tomorrow...

As long as you have comprehensive cover there is no upper limit afaik.The £50 mentioned in your policy docs is the excess that you will have to pay to the repairer.

There is no sum mentioned in the policy docs afaict - i`ve flicked=20 through though - just a freephone number to call...

There is no sum because you basically pay the £50 excess and your glass is replaced at whatever cost. There is no upper limit on the cost of the screen so pay your £50 and don't worry about it. :)

I couldn`t see any sum (let alone =A350) mentioned when I first looked - I= =20 mentioned that figure only because i`d heard other insurers using it.

I`ve found it now - and its =A350 anyway :-}

Surely you mean that it *is* worth you ringing them immediately? A cracked windscreen isn't good news...

As others have said that's the excess you pay, but, ringing their number is a sensible thing to do. They may not have your windscreen in stock.

The trip I was expecting to do was only about a mile to pick up the missus after a night out...

That`s something I hadn`t thought of... i`ll give `em a bell today, don`t think i`m going anywhere :-}

From a reputable mobile-specialist, you can get windscreens for as low as £70. Of course a windscreen may not scar your record much at all, not sure of the effect it will have on your premium, as I've never claimed on one.

A mile? Make her walk off her hangover! :-)

Ya, I had a thug break a window on our Accord and the part wasn't in stock... :-(

It was 3am, she hardly touches the stuff (had 3 wine and sodas all night, the first of which was at 5:30pm)

I`d much rather she was safe than dragged into a park she`d be walking past by a scrote...

Yes indeed, sorry, I thought she was stopping over somewhere.

It shouldn't affect your no-claims at all. I've had to claim twice in the past 10 years or so (one cracked windscreen and one rear door window when some scrote decided he'd like to help himself to my car hi-fi) and neither made any difference to my no-claims bonus / premium.

It's not supposed to affect your no-claims bonus but whether it's a contributing factor in any premium increase on renewal, who knows?

Try some quotes with and without glass claims... it made no difference to me...
