My second post about this problem - just had words with DirectLine's customer services about their request for certififcation that my 1994
300tdi discovery is fitted with a Thatcham approved immobiliser AND tracking device...... does anyone else insure anything similar pre september 95 with DirectLine? (Thatcham approval for LRSS was given in September 95 apparently).... these guys are driving me nuts at the moment!
Beware of Churchill Insurance when towing. Comprehensive cover is automatically reduced to third party when towing anything at all. I found this out at renewal a few years back and they won't vary it. It's hidden in the small print. I went to the NFU who were very slightly more expensive but not only didn't alter the cover when towing, but cover the trailer itself up to £1000.
Directline are happy to insure my 1990 RRC with FC for the same premium as Morethan, provided I have a Thatcham CAT??? imobiliser. When I explained that I only insure FC because of the windscreen cover they offered to insure it FC but without theft cover for the same premium as Morethan. Apparently this is quite common on old vehicles! As Morethan don't require any alarms or imobilisers for their FC cover I'm still with them.
Interestingly, the Morethan renewal was =A3324 but when I suggested that this was a bit steep they dropped it to =A3260. That's for a 1990 RRC EFi on a driveway in TN14 postcode and scarcely driven by a 46year old
Just had the same - premium up 90% to =A3570, and that includes a =A349 discount for 14 years loyalty. On Compare The Meercat that takes them from second cheapest (old premium) to third most expensive. SureTerm quote =A3197.70 and their cover includes Green Lane use, windscreen etc. Now the NFU offer compulsory recovery in their policies, but since I'm with the RAC and have their 'everything' cover for =A375, =A3300 extra isn't worth it for a not-very-good recovery policy.
Judging by the nature of the calls coming into the NFU office while I was having the piss taken, a great many are dumping them - the girls were doing the 'oh no, not another one' every time they picked the phone up.
"> >Dump 'em and ring up the NFU who are specialists in Land Rover insurance.

The cost for my Golf has doubled with no claims and no legal problems. I tried the AA and they were £20 cheaper. Anybody got any suggestions? sensible ones please!
