wynns oil stop leak

Im interested to know if anyone has tried the wynns oil stop leak. I have a small leak from the sump gasket which im hoping to cure otherwise it will need the engine lifted out which isnt going to be cheap, cant get access to some of the bolts due to cross member in the way.

it may work, but may well not,

the origional stop leak worked by preventing the oil from climbing up the sides of the engine, so oil leaks above the oil line were stoped, and a sump gasket leak would be unafected,

some stop leak stuff swells the seals and gaskets up, prolly not that good an idea when you think about it for a little while tho.

you shouldent need to take the engine out, just life it enoug hte get at the bolts that are hidden, tho personaly i would first try sealing round the leaky parts with an oil resistant sealer, drain the sump fists then pressure wash the area, then use some gunk to get all the oil off, then use something like blue hylomar over the area that leaks, may not look that pretty on very close inspection (but i don't mean put 6 tubes worth over the whole of the sump pan join) but if it stops the oil leaking onto the drive, then it could be considered a sucess.. don't forget to put oil back in the sump before you next drive the car mind :)

Yep, I used it on an '89 Rover 216 with a (I forget the technical term) shafted head gasket. It stopped the great clouds of fog from the exhaust long enough for me to get a new(er) car and dispose of the Rover. Note: The next person who I hear complaining about a car and its faults and decides to pass those faults (whilst lying about them when asked) on to a new owner will find themselves beaten 'round the head with said vehicle. FIX IT...THEN SELL IT YOU BRASS STUDS!

In conclusion, either get the work done or sell it and point out that the engine's mildly knackered. "Stop leak", "Stop knock", "Save me pounds" are temporary solutions.

Tom.
