Do I have to Fix the bent wheel?

Sep 21, 2006 2 Replies

Hi,

One of my wheel is bent and unavailable to balance. I can feel the "65 shimmy" but the shimmy is not that big. Top up -> more shimmy Top down -> less shimmy In this case do I have to replace the wheel right away? Somebody says that the suspension may get screwed if I don't fix it.

Thanks, Jungwoo / 96 Miata

You should.

Yes, it could. The shimmy can loosen up tie rod ends, etc.

I don't think it's a panic situation though, some people have driven with a really bad case of the shimmy for many many miles before diagnosing the problem correctly. The less time you let it go of course, the less chance of any lingering effect.
