rattly brakes?

Question

Hi,My partner has recently taken apart and cleaned the front brake assemblieson my '90, it now have nice new discs and brake pads...however, when drivingalong (especially on a bumpy road) you can hear clatters and rattles fromone wheel - I figure its some slack in the brake assembly as it stops whenthe brakes are depressed. We have checked that everything is tightened andsound, it just seems to have some play somewhere!Any suggestions folks? Pack it with something?? Did the rear brakes get readjusted as the last step?

Did all the miscellaneous clips, plates, and springs get replaced? Many replacement pad kits don't include these items and a spring or clip may have been missing when the pads were replaced.

Putting brake lube on the back of the pads (away from the rotors!) and greasing the slider pins helped eliminate a clunk noise on my miata.

Hi,yes, my chap tells me he replaced all clips, pins, copper slips, etc thatwere present, but he thinks there may have been a clip or two missing fromthe back pads...but we will try your suggestions, thanks very much!Jo.

Did the wire springs get put in ??  Some of the brake kits are beingsold without the pad's being drilled for the springs !  The '90 needs tohave the springs !      Bruce     RED    '91

You should have five clips, two shims and two springs for each front wheel and two clips, two shims and two spings for each rear wheel. You may find that you have to reuse four of the five front clips. The fifth clip that is used in the front is a small one that is attached to the edge of the pad before inserting into the assembly.
