Somewhere between 700 RPM and the rev-limiter.

There is no single answer to that question. It depends on way too many factors. Are you accelerating or decelerating? How hard to you want to accelerate or decelerate? Are you cruising through a neighborhood full of little kids or doing a quarter mile on a drag strip? Are you going uphill or downhill? How loaded is the car? Are you in a curve or on a straightaway? Is the road wet or dry, icy or snowy? What kind of tires do you have? And probably most importantly...

What color is it, and what kind of shift knob does it have?

The engine doesn't come alive until 5K, rev limiter at 7.2K so somewhere within that range. I always try and shift so that the next gear is still right at the 5K mark. The good news is that you will never hurt the engine by reving it because of the limiter so practice and find what is most enjoyable for you.

The minimum shift points (in mph) are 15, 25, 35,and 45. Maximum is whatever suits your needs: if you need more power, wind it out farther.
