winterizing

How does one go about winterizing a car. Do you need a heated garage? What about exposure to dampness, thawing and freezing? Do you put up on blocks cte. Where can I find info? Thaks

1) Install hardtop.

2) Put on Nokian snowtires.

No, but it sure is nice.

It happens.

No, I drive it. :)

If the car is a Miata, nothing special is needed beyond snow tires, but if it has a plastic rear window, be *very* careful with it. It gets brittle at freezing temperatures and scatters very easily.

The advice of Grant Edwards to get a hardtop is sound. If you cannot afford a used one on miata.net, you can probably not afford to replace your scattered plastic rear window, so be very careful with it.

No. No! NO!! I need an airconditioned garage! But in winter it might be nice, though.

I am exposed to those too when working on my car. :( Florida has some of the most inclement weather anywhere.

I never put on blocks. Though I am not sure about cte. Where do you find it? And is it harmful?

Encyclopedias, the Internet, the usenet, to mention a few that are very good.

Glad to have been able to assist you, Thaks!

Do you mean storing the car for the winter or getting it ready for winter driving? Two different things.

I don't do anything special really.

Sometimes I wish it was heated, when I'm walking around barefoot in it.

My garage doesn't have any of the above characteristics.

No, then it would be much more difficult to take it for a spin on the dry days during our winter.

In your Mazda owner's manual.

P.S. Did I mention I love California?

I still smile at the thought of Christmas decorations on the beach, with 77F weather, in December. Florida...

I've driven mine for 5 years as a 12-month daily commuter in Northern Ohio- hardtop and snow tires in winter. At this point the only ill effect I can see on the car is a few scratches on the hardtop I inflicted with careless snowbrushing.
