Airco vraag

What is your hangup about 'Deutsch' posting their questions here?It doesn't bother me and sure it doesn't bother a majority of others so instead of whining about it,either look over it or answer it!

Maybe the Dutch received word that this is a good site to ask questions! If someone posted a message in Spanish, would you get all upset if someone shared the same remarks as you about posting in Spanish,so come on and welcome all Mercedes owners.

See my Dutch post for an explaination of why it bothers me so much. It also bothers me that especially my countrymen (0.3% of the world population) should be the ones that to use a language that nobody but they understand. Almost all Dutchmen speak English, it's just bad manners to stumble in and start blabbering in Dutch.

Think about it. Multilanguage newsgroups are useless because nobody understands each other. Suppose this newsgroup would consist of hundreds of posts in dozens of languages. Would you bother to look for the English ones? Tower of Babel.

BTW: Deutsch (The German word for 'German') is quite different from Dutch (the English word for people living in the Netherlands and their native language).

To me it seems to be more of an PERSONAL issue with you rather than your weak defense about multilanguage postings!

You said in the other Dutch posting that this is an international site.......Jeopardy game show theme music playing..........................................................................................................So..?

It's not a defense, it's an opinion and it's a good one IMHO.

I'm still waiting to hear how useful you would find a true multilangual newsgroup. I like to read this newsgroup to pick up on a little background info on my MB. If a third of the postings were in Spanish and another third in Japanese I would soon get frustrated because I wouldn't be able to follow the discussion missing out on interesting info. It seems logical that the same thing would apply to others even if they may find an occassional Dutch post cute.

playing..........................................................................................................So..?

The internet lingua franca is English, lucky for us.

0.3%,how overwhelming could it realistically get? And multilingual postings,it will become more frustrating to non English speaking authors when questions are rarely answered by a predominantly English speaking site anyways.

You'd be surprised. I'm not just opposed to Dutch posts in English groups, but for some reason you see quite a few of them regularly. If you start counting non-English speakers you'd get overwhelmed quite quickly. How about some Chinese posts at ca. 25% of world pop? ;)

Yes, and that's what we see happening here. Good questions and good answers make a good newsgroup. Poor Dre Meuffels hasn't had an answer yet... Of course, he should've posted in nl.auto because his post is not MB specific and there's lots of Dutch speaking people there (English posting is frowned upon). Anyway, let's lay this subject to rest for now.

I think you are out of luck. If you are saying the A/C isn't cold enough? You can find the A/C by following the serpentine belt at the front of your engine. One of the items being driven is the compressor for the A/C.

Good luck. Marty

PS See guys, it's not that tough.

Don't turn this thread into a newsgroup usage thread. There are other newsgroups for that.

We should have a common aim of having our Mercedes work as well as we collectively can.

If someone has decided not to embarrass themselves by their poor English at the expense of reducing the number of people who can help then please be a Samaritan and translate for them.

That will help them to understand how they can say in English what they said in Dutch and also increase the number of people who can help.

A language course should not be a pre-req to enjoying your Benz.

For the englisch speaking people: Let an airco specialist or MB refill the airco. I have don it 2 years ago and the airco is working mutch better, they filled 1.5 liters liquid more in the system.

Of course not, the only place to discuss a particular newsgroup is in that group itself unless you want to start a specific discussion (.d) subgroup. I'm not starting any threads, but if I see a Dutch poster in an international newsgroup I *will* react trying to get them to post in English. As you can see in the other thread, that sometimes helps. It's up to the others if this will turn into a thread.

Yes, and to try to understand one another. I'm still waiting for anyone to react to my earlier posting where I explained my motives.

Every Dutch person under 50 has had several years of English classes in high school. The Dutch are known for their good English. If they can't manage posting a simple question they should stick to Dutch speaking ones of which there are a plethora as should any spanish, chinese, japanese, italian, eskimo and other non-English languages.

Mmmm, why then must I struggle to understand the German 'Bedienungsanleitung' that came with mine? ;)

We should really all be speaking German here, herr Blassberg...

There is no point in answering your question about motives because this will always end in a stalemate!

I myself will feel the way I do and you will feel the way you do!

OK, I don't think this is the place for endless discussions anyway.

I'll just stick to asking people to rephrase their questions in English in a friendly way.
