Classified newspaper ads, Autotrader.com, newsgroups like this one.
Local newspapers, and various classified rags. Since I bought my '74 SLC, I've been amazed just how many older SL's are available that have been properly maintained and reasonably priced.

The best place by far is from or thru a Mercedes specialist!
I would love to find an SLC in good condition.
My problems have been: Not much in the newspaper Inflated prices for prices of crap at local used dealers. One SL had a laundry list of problems including the engine about to come loose and they still wanted $28 K for an '88 Not many with records Auto traders who seem to ignore the rust and flood damage

Anywhere you can find them. Local ones are usually the cheapest, once they're nationally advertised the price goes up in the sllers mind.
Teak? Where? How cheap?

Don't buy any car until you've had somebody that REALLY KNOWS THAT MODEL WELL look at it. This cannot be emphaszied enough or do you want the hear the story of a guy who sent his Healy owning buddy to look at a 6.3 and bought it on his ok and $25K later still does not have a running car??
Don;t give up. Decent SLC coupes are rare but they are ten times harder to sell than their more pedestrian flop-top brethren, making them much more reasonable, car for car.

I have to say "amen to what George said. Buy through a specialist, get the complete list of what is wrong, what has been done & how often, get the carfax report, have your MB mechanic give it a thorough once or twice over, then if all checks out well, "you pays you money and you takes you chances."
One thing you can't afford is a cheap Mercedes.
