cold weather starting

Diesel fuel can clog up in cold weather, but the oil compagnies usually supply the gas stations with winter diesel fuel in cold weather, so that clogging doesn't happen. It probably is a problem with your battery: get the battery out of the car, charge it and warm it in your house overnight, put it back and then try starting. Pre-glow three times. The idle speed adjuster should be turned fully to the left before starting (press throttle half way to turn it). Starting takes a lot of energy and cold batteries don't have a lot of it.

Block heaters will make starting easier as well, but you have to fit one.

You can add ordinary gas, doesn't have to be kerosine, to your tank, I suggest 2,5 US gallon to a 15 gallon tank, it has the added advantage of cleaning the engine of soot (the gas increases the temperature in your diesel engine and burns away the soot).

The best thing to do is fully charge the battery.

Then, with the battery fully charged, pre-glow it two or three times. That's ON wait ten seconds beyond the glow light going off, OFF, then ON again - glow, OFF, then ON, glow and START.

Do not add anything to the fuel and NEVER use either or starting fluid as these may crack the engine's prechambers.

Not that you'll do it right now, but when were the engine's valves last adjusted? Unadjusted valves cause lost compression and that's a big setback to an old motor like this one.

So charge up that battery and hit the road!

ok it happened again could one or more the injectors be clogged with parafin and if so can i just use compesed air to clean them or do i have to use special tools ive replaced the battery twice now and ive added everything i can add into the fuel tan

What are the condition of the Glow plugs? When was the last valve adjustment done?

Jah, really.

Down to 0F if it won't start it's the glow plugs.

Down to -10F if it won't start it doesn't have synthetic oil.

If it won't start at -40 then it doesn't have block heat.

umm i have no clue when the glow plugs where last checked and the valves havent been adjusted for a good time now i just got the car last year andit drove fine until i didnt start it for one day and that when albany was having its wierd cold weathe
