Suddenly the dashboard display (Radio/Phone etc.) has gone dim in daylight and the adjustment button has no effect. Maybe coincidentally the automatic windscreen wipers do not stop when the rain stops. Any ideas??

Sorry ! It is a Merc. E200 2003.
Either the rain/light sensor in the windshield died and/or the ribbon cable between it and the overhead control unit [front dome light] went bad.
