Thanks Zaphod, speedy too!
I will go and harrass my news group server provider then (speakeasy).

Don't bother. Most ISPs have limited space for newsgroups and postings fall off one end as fast as they come in the other. A week is ancient history.
Use Google Groups for the history. Excellent searching capabilities (obviously).
You've already got a good posting system. I like mine.
BTW - you'll want to munge (*) your e-mail address or you'll spammed.
*Example mercedes barkTRIMnaturalSPAMBLOCKpetREMOVEcomOh too late. The bots will have harvested it already.

Newsgroup server only keeps 3 days of posting... you can see all the archives on Google.
Perhaps your browser is set to dump posts after X days, too soon for your purpose in this instance.
This is not true apparently for me.
If I search for "sunroof" I see at least two years worth of posts, but not my newest ones. Speakeasy is in general a very kickass ISP, and I love there service and pro level support. I host several sites on there IP's so I wonder if this is some kind of "problem" rather then just a three days is too old issue...
Thanks, Marty
I spoke to my online tech support... they said it is the newsgroup server that specified the number of days they hold... apparently that there are tons of newsgroups and their reluctance to hold any longer than 3 days.
You can set the newsreader you use such as Outlook express to hold older posts... but you still have to log in often to download the posts.
Each ISP decides how much server space to use, and how much of that to allocate to each newsgroup. From what I have read, the number of people who use usenet is relatively small, and many ISPs are unwilling to devote a lot of resources to a small number of clients, so many are not buying new servers. If your ISP has allocated a relatively small space to this newsgroup, old postings will drop out rapidly, as they are replaced by new. In some cases, the life of a posting is measured in hours.

Thanks for all your thoughts.
They are all wrong of course...
It turns out it's an issue with my News client software...
The server (news.speakeasy.net) has everything aok, but for some reason I needed to empty and reload the messages in my client for them to reappear?
I will contact the vendor of my client software (Unison).
Thanks, Marty
Does this explain why I sometimes cannot see my post directly, but only in someone's reply? Doesn't happen often, though.
