How to take off dash from 126?

I have to change the wood trim and some electrics, does the entire dash have to be taken off? And the wood trim on the glove compartment, is that glued or screwed on?

Also, how does one go about taking the shifter wood panel off?

Thanks in advance for any advice! cp

Not sure about the wood trims on dash. The wood on grove box door is screwed on by two screws.  Open the door and see.  There is one in the middle then another at right.  You also have to loose the door lock screws (3 at left).  Don't need to remove them, just loose enough.  If you do take down the lock screws, make sure the handle goes back correctly so it can unlock the door. The wood around shifter:

  1. Remove ashtray insert.  You will see two screws locking the ashtray to center console
  2. Remove the two screws.  Take out the ashtray.
  3. Lift up the coin box from the farther (or front) edge.  The box has two tabs fitting into the channels in the shifter wood.
  4. Push wood forward (toward engine) and lift.
  5. Unplug all wires from switches cp wrote: I have to change the wood trim and some electrics, does the entire dash have to be taken off? There is a screw at the rear of the console wood, remove it and carefully lift the console wood. I just had mine restored at Heritage Woodworks.com and it is gorgeous! It cost me with shipping $130, much less than new wood. Look on the back of the glove box door to see if the wood is screwed on. Ask any dealer service dept or MB body shop and they will explain everything to you. You could also ask to see an expanded picture at the parts dept. They will print a copy for you. PKmaven
