I have a 2001 e430 with many problems. I suspect the car was in a flood and has some components changed. I suspect the engine is not original, and would like to check the build date of the engine. Any suggestions?

Do you have the service booklet in the packet? If yes, glued to the inside back cover is the data card. On it is the engine serial number. Compare it to the engine number stamped into the block.

Would something like CarFax help you on this?
From your list of repairs posted on other threads, you should have dumped that car. Run a carfax on it to see if it spits out flood damage and see where the car came from... Lousiana?
If Carfax does list flood damage, you have legal right to sue the seller
This thing is a disaster...I think I?ll stay on this side of the atlantic from now o
