Prob with Climate Control on 1983 300SD

Can anyone help me with procedures for troubleshooting the climate control system on this vehicle. The Chiltons book I have is worthless in this regard and has no detailed information.

The vehicle was changed over to R143 at some point, but nothing works on the panel... no fan, nothing. I can hear the vacuum motors open and close when the controls are pressed, but nothing else.

Any help would be appreciated.

First... check your fuses... take them out... and put new one in. These MB fuses are notorious for looking okay but in fact corroded and poor contact.

If your control moves the flaps, then most likely the controller itself is fine.

I would start out with fuses before I get into anything else. The W126 climate control system is very simple system so diagnostic is pretty easy.

As for R134a... if you have a pressure gauge, hook up the low side... by the shock tower... if the static pressure is 90 PSI, then you do have good charge.

Is the air coming out of the vent cold even though you may not feel any air movement? If so, then you need to focus on the fan motor...

replace the fuse best yet replace all fuses because of age.

also if that does not work you may need a controller some one here will tell you were to get one. DON'T GO TO A DEALER
