removing ac expansion valve 300sd

May 09, 2009 3 Replies

I've read somewhere that the expansion valve on a 300sd is a pain to remove and that there's a special mercedes tool to take it out.

I'm putting in a new compressor and drier thought I'd do the expansion valve while the system is empty. Is it really that much trouble to remove this thing?

Thanks, Jeff

No... it is not that hard to do. Just follor the AC line toward in between the two firewalls. You will see it. It is only an allen key... one.

Yeah, I read that too. It made me put off doing the job. Then I finally got around to it and found out it was easy to get to. You just have to remove the kick panel on the front passenger side and then remove the lines and out it comes. I removed the glove box too so I could see around it better. But last summer when I was doing a leak check, all I had to remove was the kick panel.

Paul, You must have a 123; mine is a 300SD, a 126 body and the expansion valve is on the driver's side. What I had read was that the 123 is easy and the 126 was harder. In any case, I'll find out next weekend just how hard it is to do.

Jeff
