I've just bought a 1970 MGB V8, a great car, but needs a few little things sorting out, in particular the air filter. What air filters do people use with a Holley carb'? The present one is in need of replacement, and in my opinion, just too small for a 3.9L engine.
Any advice greatly received. Thanks Colin..........
I'm using a 1.5 inch pancake on a 3.5 and all seems well. But I think you might have clearance issues in an MGB.
Thanks, Clearance, yes I believe some cut out the bonnet's (hood) central strength member, but I'm trying to avoid that.
If you put a fairing in front of the filter for reducing wind resistance, it might be a good idea. I've got an extended bulge on my TR and while it gets in the way a bit, you don't generally need to look at the corner of the car it is blocking.
Biggest issue for a hole in the bonnet is rain getting in, again the fairing up front and maybe over the top can solve this problem.
A friend has a downdraught filter, which comprises a horn with a mesh over the top. To my mind it breathes through a smaller cross sectional area of filter but it revs ok. The top of that is a plastic piece, as the car goes faster, the plastic bulges up creating a sort of ram air effect, and when parked the flap is flat and water won't go in.
