2007 Minis....

Beautiful. Simply beautiful (like the Mini before the redesign).

Oh No! They are making it longer and replacing the supercharger with a turbo! The front end is smoothed out, taking away from that cute sloped look. Why? Why can't they leave well enough alone? That means that I'll have to keep my 2002 Mini forever! (not a bad thing though.) I was hoping they would come out with a 6 cylinder version with a supercharger...maybe something in the 12 second/quarter mile range, but now I guess not. Oh well, I guess I'm getting too old for something that fast anyway, even for my jaunts down to the track. I just can't help it though, I like speed, in the proper environment of course. I sold my 1988 BMW M3 (Henna Red) because I didn't drive it much. I bought the Mini Cooper S because I wanted a Mini since 1989, when I first saw one at the track. Finding out that the Cooper S was faster than my Mini S, was a pleasant surprise, but the M3 was much more refined than the Cooper S. Taking a turn at 100 MPH down at the track, is nothing for the M3, but the Mini, well, it's an adventure. Being single, I can afford to take jaunts down the track. I was married, but my wife ran off with my best friend. Well, okay, I had never met the guy that she ran off with, but since he took her off my hands, I now consider him to be my best friend.(heck, I even gave him a nice check when he married my ex-wife....I figure, she's his problem now.) Back on topic, if they keep fooling around with it, it will be just like every other car out there. I hope that they leave it alone and keep it's diminuitive size.

A good design will last a long time, a very long time ( 1959 to 2000 ) a not so good design won't last without change, simple,

Steve.

Right you are, Steve. But I'm not sure what car you could be talking about that was produced from 1959 - 2000 without any design changes. At first I thought you might be talking about the original Mini, but I checked it out, and believe it or not, there have been several engineering and design changes made to it over the years. The first major one was... hmm.. let me see... oh yes, only TWO years after it's inception date of 1959. That was in 1961, when the legendary John Cooper turned the underpowered little "orange box" into a decent little performance car.

Of course, many, many other changes were made to the Mini over the years, and thankfully so for the devoted fans of this car. Concerns over passenger safety and environmental issues were addressed, performance was tweaked, and the little car continued to improve.

So if I may paraphrase you, Steve, a good design is one that changes to keep in step with the times, not one that is stagnating in the past.

Yes, of course steve, the design of the classic mini didn't change at all from launch to death did it. MUCH !

I wouldn't have noticed any diference at all between my first 850 and a 1.3 mpi would I !
