Electric roof problem

Hi, has anyone had any experience in faulty electric sun roofs on open top minis? I went to close mine today and there followed lots of clicking and the roof wouldnt shut, bit of tinkering looks as though the motor has come away from the winding mechanism so the teeth are missing the cable, making lots of noise and not operating the roof, is this an easy job or would you recommend Rover? Or am i wasting my time with them and should try a reputable company like Minispeed in weybridge?

Hope anyone can help?

That has been a similiar responce from other people, I have now booked it in at a local former Rover dealer, booked within a day and a free courtesy car, who said Rover was shyte, oops, that was me i think? Proof in the pudding, expecting a large bill for just labour and four screws!, oh and maybe a fifth one?

Fingures crossed

Rover dealers are not 'Rover'. They are independent businesses which hold a franchise. Same with all other main dealers. Some will be better than others. All will be more expensive than an independent Mini specialist. None are likely to be as informed about Minis as an independent Mini specialist. On the other hand, your sunroof problem doesn't sound like it needs any sort of specialist knowledge about Minis, just sunroofs.

Personally, I would never use a main dealer for any car once it was out of warranty. Why pay the price when the world is full of much cheaper independent specialists who do a better job anyway.

Common misconception. The dealerships are not part of Rover. They are independent businesses which hold a franchise from Rover. This is the same for the main dealers of all manufacturers.

The promise of a free courtesy car and real workshop manuals drew me to them, they are a well known local Rover specialist and have been a Classic Mini Specialist in the past selling many to people i know, they even have a couple for sale on the forecourt. I dont think i can go wrong with them, they will get the parts in direct from the supplier if needed and have a better idea of how to do it by refering to mirofiche and manual diagrams better than any back street garage i have beem to before, been let down too many times. If its fixed and it lasts then i havent got anything to moan about except likely cost.
