WAKE UP STEVE ! Damn good looking car with great German engineering, which is far better than the old English technology. Sold my old version and got the modern Mini, and am never going back. This is the first time my garage floor has been clean in a long time. Yeh ! Less time working on the car, more time driving it. I realize you think that this is the wrong news group. But, you would be incorrect.

Yes and they do seem to have a habit of flaming? No I don't mean posting messages on the wrong newsgroup like some people seem to do, but they actually burst into flames for no aparant reason!

That is what my pug 206 estate is for. Dull and boring. The pickup is for rolling around in oil near.

Well there must be something wrong with my 1990 Mainstream Mini Cooper then? I mean it's a damn good looking car with great British engineering, which seems to be far better than the newer German technology (well my Mini hasn't burst into flames for starters!). So I won't be buying the BMW BINI in place of my real Mini, no I'd never do that and my garage floor is always clean. Yeh! and I always seem to be driving it with less time working on it too!

Oh and my Pug 405 is used for the dull and boring driving jobs, but when I want to go racing around the Welsh mountains and hills of my home town (it's like the Alps here, no really!) my Mini is damned exciting to drive and looks amazing too.

I just don't get people who have a problem with the shape of the so called new mini or aka the Bini,

Do you honestly believe that Alec Issigonis might not have considered something along those design lines. I mean if he wasn't into changing designs this group would be devoted to the morris minor. Just a thought.

OK. I know I'm the first one to say we should ignore the trolls, but I can't resist.

It is nothing to do with whether we like the shape of the BMW attempt or not. It is off topic in this newsgroup, which is about the real Mini.

Issigonis had little or no interest in what his cars looked like. He was not into 'styling'. The Mini is a functional shape. Sir Alec would have been horrified by the new so-called Mini because of the inefficiency of its design. Despite being huge, it has no rear leg room and no boot space!

If he had had the opportunity to design a new Mini in the '90s he would undoubtedly have come up with something brilliant and innovative, probably bearing as little family resemblance to the original Mini as it does to the Minor.

In fact, that's exactly what Rover's design team did. Unfortunately, BMW rejected it in favour of the dull and conventional.

I myself don't dislike the new bini, although a more suitable name would be allegro because its closer to the size of one of these, the word mini for those with their eyes closed means small, the word mini never appeared in a dictionary till 1960, the first entry being mini, a type of small car, mini is an abbreviation of the word miniature which means: much smaller than normal, a miniature thing, love it or hate it a bini will never be 10 foot long, infact when sitting at traffic lights & comparing a new bini to a Audi a4 the bini is taller, Issigonis designed the car to be affordable, economical, small & classless, that's 4 things, in building it he created a legend, the new one may be faster & oversized but it will never equal the original, never!

Yes and you didn't even mention how fantastic the Mini turned out to be in motorsport either? Well thanks to the Mini Cooper S and it's David amongst Goliath giant killing ways it completely annihilated and run rings around everything for years and years and as soon as it won the Monte Carlo Rally outright for the first time in 1964, everyone from The Beatles, Mick Jagger, Peter Sellers to Royalty wanted to own and be seen in a Mini! And I remember following the 1997 Network Q Rally of Great Britain and a Rover Mini Cooper won it's class in Group N! Ere I don't recall the BINI bringing home any trophies recently?

And you may think the so called BINI Cooper S is impressive? Well it still hasn't got what it takes, not when compared to the original, because a few years ago on a TV programme called Top Gear, they put a classic 1960's Mini Cooper S (with a modified engine, so it was as fast as a new version) up against a brand new BMW so called MINI Cooper S and whilst they were kneck and kneck on the first straight, as soon as they hit a bend the original Mini annihilated the BMW version and just left it standing. Basically the new type can't go around corners nowhere near as good as the original, so they should really have stuck to Classic Mini Cooper's when they made the so called remake/follow up to The Italian Job in 2003, which should really have been called The LA Heist?

Anyway that's my 2pence worth anyway!
