Newbie here... Go easy on me! :)

Hi all! This is my first time here. Looks like it could be a fun group... well, with a few exceptions I suppose, but it's that way in any group, right?

I'm an American from Florida. I just bought a 2002 MCS. I've always had a love of European cars, having owned three MGB's, two Mercedes, a

1962 Volvo, two Renaults (including a 1959 Dauphine... dauph59... get it?), and now my Mini.

I have to say it's the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel of a car! I loved my MG's too, but being from Florida, it's really nice to have a car with air conditioning!

Anyway, that's my way of introducing myself. I'll check in later!

Bye Ya'll!

Welcome Dauph, you do indeed have a great car. I own one myself and have a great time driving it. The "S" model really packs a punch. See you later.

Well if you own a 2002 MCS I suggest you join alt.autos.newmini, because it may have escaped your attention but this group only caters for the real British Mini which was in production for over 41 years and sold all around the world (and manufactured around the world too!) in that time.

Anyway if you don't know what a real Mini is, take a look at my "Mini History 1959-2000 rough guide" website and educate yourself:-

then you'll understand where we're comingfrom here.

What is a 2002 MSC? I think you are in the wrong group, try alt.autos.newmini or alt.junk

Sorry to have offended anyone by not owning a "true" Mini. I wasn't aware that ownership of one was a prerequisite for posting to this newsgroup. I assumed (falsely?) that a love of or an interest in them was reason enough to check in.

My first MGB was a chrome bumper model. My second two were rubber bumper models. I found the same exclusionary attitude among MG owners (i.e. chrome bumpers are the only "true" B's). I never believed that. I felt that it was a matter of personal choice.

Trust me, if anyone wanted to admire my '02 MCS (that's a Mini Cooper S in response to Steve' question), I'd be proud to drive a car that draws positive attention, even if the person admiring it drove a Yugo or a Toyota... or even a '68 Mini.

Speaking as an outsider with currently no Mini/MINI of any description...

I think the only people you've offended really are ones that actually enjoy being "offended" so they can post indignant responses. It can make for some amusing reading, if you've got a thick skin and time to burn.

Tell me about it. I used to have an Alfa 156. Of course, this was sneered at by a small percentage of "classic" Alfa owners who would describe 156s as "Fiats". Oh the shame! It's the same now I have a Saab 9-3 "It's not a real Saab, it was made after GM took over, it's a Vauxhall". It's all just healthy rivalry as long as people don't take themselves too seriously.

Indeed. Having said all that though, you really would be better off posting on a new MINI group than here. Offending people isn't an issue, but failing to reach your target audience is.

Above all, enjoy your fast, comfortable, relatively well made, fat, ugly car ;o)

Cheers,

Colin.

G'day and welcome to the group, You will find there are very few fundamentalists here, most people are quite prepared to be civil that write in.

I have been chewed up a few times, I mean, although I have ever only owned the original mini, I don't mind the so called NEW mini, I also live in New South Wales, so as far as Taffy's concerned, who apparently lives in South Wales, I am going to have two strokes against me before I even start. lol

Regards

Peter.

Thanks for your kind words Colin. You too, Pierre. I suppose I'll stick around for a while... not to offend, and not to reach any target audience, but out of an admiration for the original Mini! :)

Mind you I always thought, think my 90' Mainstream Cooper is pretty fast (well it is slightly modified), it's also quite comfortable too (well I'm over 6foot and I find it very comfortable with it's reclining seats and lowered steering column bracket) and it's relatively well made, well it'll be 16 years young this November and it's still going strong, but it certainly isn't fat or ugly though! ;O)

I don't see anyone being offended?

All I saw was Taffy politley explaining that this NG is and was set up prior to the MINI, and is primarily for discussion and disertation on the original Mini. He also directed the poster to the appropriate NG for owner of the MINI.

I for the life of me can't work out why MINI owners take it as a slap in the face with a wet kipper everytime a Mini person advises them that they have a MINI and not a Mini.

Its simple guys and girls, you own a Mini you come to this NG, you own a MINI you go to alt.auto.newmini group.. To put it in simple terms, if you own a Toyota do you take it to a BMW dealer for warranty of service work...NO you take it to the Toyota Dealer....so why would you want to come to the mini NG when you really want the MINI NG???????

So kiddies, if you want to play at bitch fights take it outside the rest of us simply do not want to hear this Bull Shit!

Nor do I - at least prior to your post that is. Now I'm not so sure, but I'm guessing that you haven't actually been offended for real either.

Well, I suggest you read his post again then. He did indeed say all that, but he also inserted enough sarcasm to clearly imply that the OP had displayed some stupidity in not realizing this without his help. It was slightly hostile in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way.

There you were, making a bid for the moral high-ground, when you go and bugger it all up with a sweeping generalization like that. Now you've just made yourself look like some kind of strange automotive bigot.

All fascinating (and nearly correct) stuff, but what does it have to do with my post? Or had you forgotten that you were following-up to my post and were just generally going off on one? If so, carry on, but the people you would like to take notice of you, wont.

If you don't want to hear it, why did you revive this thread, which would almost certainly have died without you, and then tack on a blatant attempt at provocation to boot?

Cheers,

Colin.

Look I don't set out to be rude to people anywhere because if you met me you'd find that I'm not rude at all in fact I'm very friendly, but after having a resident Troll who gave nothing but abuse here for months, does leave me (plus many regular posters here) just a bit bloody minded, especially when BINI owners who know nothing about the real Mini post here.

So it's really just a case of, recognise this newsgroup which stands for the glory of the real thing and accept that or bog off! LOL
