Hey readers! Can anyone suggest the ease with which low profile tyres will fit onto 13 inch rims? I'm worried about the tyre scrubbing on the suspension or arches. Does anyone have a proven fit which did not require cutting into the wings please?
13" wheels will definitely need the front arches to be modified at the front, otherwise as soon as you turn the steering, the wheel will go into the wing and damage it.
It's not that difficult to do (a bit painful though) Obviously you will need wheel arch extensions to cover this up that are open on the inside skin.
The modern "Sportspack" Arches are like this.
You shouldn't have any problems with clearance on 13" wheels other than the front of the front wing (as above).
There are now some 13" wheels where you may get away with it. I had 13" by
5.5" supertourers on the pickup without cutting the arches. Depends on if you have the clearance which may be down to age. If things are sagging it may be more difficult.
AFAIK you can get sportspack replicas that do fit without turning your mini into a rusting pile of poo - which cutting the arches will do quite quickly.
