I am wanting to know which wheels will fit onto my car i was thinking of 17" but i dont want the tyres to rub on the arches as this would just be stupid, how do you work out what size wheel/tyre combination will fit onto allowing for the rise and fall of the suspension any advice is appreciater

Bung 17s on it and very low profile tyres, and you might just maintain the gearing but destroy the ride. Some people will put up with the ride for the sake of looks.
You might also end up with over long gearing, alter how the suspension works (I guarantee any 17" alloy you get that's made for the road will weigh more than your current wheels and tyre setup), and as you've got overlong gearing you'll acellerate slower than you did before. Did I mention that it might not be a good idea?
Have a look at

to see what tyre /wheel combinations you can use without buggering up the gearing too much.Bear in mind that such wheels will just be bigger, they won't "fill" thearches any more than the standard ones because they're near enough the samediameter once they've got tyres on.
