Grinding sound from underneath 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart

I have a 2004 mitsubishi lancer ralliart sedan with around 38,000 miles on it. Today I started noticing a grinding sound coming from underneath the car. The sound only happens when the car is in motion, and doesnt do it when i rev up the engine. The sound also doesnt change pitch when I accelerate. The sound also doesnt change pitch or get louder when I hit the breaks either. My friend and I listened really hard outside the car and inside the car to try to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from, and it sounds like the sound is centered directly underneath the center console of the vehicle. Thats where the sound was the loudest for sure. What could the problem be?

I'd guess its either a wheel bearing or axle CV. Might be a final drive (diff) bearing but this is unlikely at only 38,000. If the grinding noise changes pitch or disappears when you turn, its a bearing. If you get a vibration in the steering wheel, its an inner CV.

well the grinding noise doesnt change pitch and dissapears only some of the time when I make a turn. There is definitely no vibration in the steering wheel. And another new thing that I noticed was that there is a grinding noise still even when the car isnt in motion...its just a little quite. Do you think the vehicle would be safe to drive for two hours?

Then it's a wheel bearing. I just fixed that problem on a 99 Mirage LS I bought, which made a grinding noise every time the steering wheel's turned to the right even by 1 degree (hence it was my LEFT-front wheel bearing). The noise didn't vary with acceleration or brakes; it was simply constant above 30 MPH. They say it's CV-related stuff if you hear a clicking noise while turning.
