I bought a muffler for my Galant 4 cyl engine. WIth the silencer on, it is too quiet, with the silencer off, it is kind of anoying when stepping on the gas when taking off, after that, it is fine at idle speeds. I was thinking about drilling a couple of holes in the silencer to the the tone level inbetween, can this be possible?? Thanks for the advice.

Possible but not practical if the muffler is a multi chamber type rather than straight through. What you need is a different muffler. Some cars have just one rear muffer, others have one or more small (about 20cm long) straight through (sometimes chambered) resonators. You can start with a rear muffler and add a resonator soon after the catalytic converted to adjust the noise to something acceptable.
You can cut off the rear end of the muffler if the baffle cap is not removable making an ultimate fart can. Make sure to have earplugs ready, and no, they won't help much. Hopefully the first policeman will shoot you on sight.
