On a 96 Carisma with a 4G93 engine the inner drive shaft U/J to transmission is retained by a round section internal snap ring. It required a stiff lever and a sharp tap with a hammer (on the lever) to pop it out. There is a lever point cast into the auto transmission on my car. Watch out for the oill seal protector ring if fitted when you put the lever in.
