To All Mitsubishi Eclipse Owners

I have a 1998 Eclipse RS, and I love it. I have had no major problems with it at all. I had an oil leak about a month ago, and had the timing belt changed just recently (but that's something you should do when it gets to 60,000 miles (I'm at 52,000), so it's no biggie) In fact, I graduate this year from school, and my parents are buying me a new car as a graduation present. What did I ask for?!? a

1999 Eclipse Spyder GST!! I hope you get one...they look AND run great:)

you need to do some research on crankwalk before you get too excited. yes, i dig the car also but i was prepared and able to perform a 6 bolt motor swap. at 80,000 the motor was done. the bottom end on the motors in the 2G cars are just junk. this is an awesome car for a hobbiest who is equiped to deal with it but for anyone else i could be a financial disaster.

go here, read up:

**********End Of Post************* Wow I guess I put up a small rant, amazing what a bad day & a few beers can do. Anyway Yes I know what crankwalk is, I found the article very interesting but it applys to the 2g's I may be wrong but I was under the impression the mitsu. redesigned the motor and a host of other things for the 3g's. mitsu is giving 100k Warr. on the drive line so If things have not changed in most folks should be in good shape. I also wonder if part of the prob. is people over doing it with hop up's? I have no intention of any mods except making it breath better and most folks won't even bother with that. geez rambling again.

crankwalk happens in bone stock cars, though is much more common in cars running aftermarket clutches. the heavy diaphram spring is just too much load when your oil pressure is gone. i measured my crank endplay at .015" at it's time of death. that's not a huge figure but enough to let the rotor on the crank strike the crank angle sensor. your motor's "clock" is literally ticking as the sensor gets chewed up telling you that you're out of time. what really sucks is that the original 6 bolt flywheel motor is a glorious engine. if they had not molested it, no one would be talking about crankwalk. as i have mentioned in other threads, the local import shop told me it is replacing motors on one to two cars per week. mitsu didn't fix things when they introduced the 3G with the v-6. what they did was abandon their customers and wash their hands of the issue. the guy who wrote the article on crankwalk, marco the floppyhead, saved all of our asses by figuring out how the swap the old motor into the new car.

sad i say. when all is going well, it's a great little car but the onemy buddy has in his shop now( a pretty metallic green gst) belongs to a kidin school. it was bought for him by his mom who makes $12.00/hr.eclipsegirl's post made me think of them......i have serious love/hate issues with mitsu that i have to sort out.
