A refreshing change

Test drove a couple of 405s today. Half way through test driving the first one, I realised there was no need to double declutch downchanges... The things driving a Volvo 340 does to you.

LOL :)

If you're looking to buy, then don't go for a Mk1 - the Mk2s ('93 K-Plate Onwards) sport much improved build quality, and much more standard equipment. Look for a '94/'95 car to get the Mi16 bumpers as standard. Don't go for anything less than the 2.0 8v - it's only Group 9 insurance. The GTX/STi/SRi are the trim-levels to look for - don't bother going to see any Executives, cos they're all Autos.

Obviously the Mi16/LeMans is the model of choice if you can afford the Group

13 insurance.

If you really want something Saaby but still want to get insured think about a 9000 2.3 non turbo. About 130 BHP, but big and lazy rather than powerful and sporty. Here is a national search on autotrader distances are based on my area, but not my postcode.

CD(i/s/e) models are saloons but with huge boots. CS(i/s/e) models are tradional Saab hatchbacks (like a fastback estate rather than a normal small hatch.

The first one looks interesting. "A & A Brooke Saab 4 door, Saloon, Blue, 96000 miles, Manual, ABS, Alloys, Central Locking, Electric Windows and Mirrors, Leather Trim, PAS, Sunroof, Full Service History. Full grey leather. very clean car. PX to clear" and saloons are always cheaper to buy because Saab owners like big hatches like Volvo owners prefer Estates."

Also see if you can afford to get Richard Elliot at Saabtec in Glossop to inspect it for you if you go to look at one in Manchester/Derbyshire/Yorkshire or get him to recommend someone. He's the tech officer for the club.

But 2.3 will be s**te on fuel, and with 130 in a great hulkin Saab, slow. If you're going for s**te on fuel, you may as well at least do it quickly :)

Although, this one looks cool -

1992 SAAB 9000CS 2.3 TURBO, J reg. red velour, aircon, e/w, e/s/r, e/h/m, alloys, front fogs, Taxed April 2005, Tested February 2005, FSH, 8 h/seats, below average mileage, reduced for quick sale. £650 . ono.

The red one with interesting alloys.
