Absolutely OT: Czech Opticians

ISTR PeteM at least has some Czech mates. In a week or two I'm off to Moravia, then a couple of days in Prague. Probably Saturday and Sunday. What are my odds of getting a pair of glasses glazed on the cheap (ie, do they usually manage same day turn around like UK labs?)?

Very good indeed. Czech opticians are excellent, and very often can supply proper (not copy) designer frames and lenses for ridiculously small amounts of money. Like £40.

If you get the chance, go to Liberec for a day. Top place, and if you go to a pub / club called Stamina (quite well known) it's owned by a mate of a mate of mine. Bobo is name is, speaks English, funny guy and has some excellent bands on.

If you're looking for cheap beer and a good laugh, either the Cerny Kun, Vokno (really cheap!) or Desperado are good places to go. Salamandr does good food for virtually nothing as well, and the barmaids are fit as f*ck.

Aye. Bird works in an opticians - designer frames work on a 300% markup here...

I'll be somewhere down my Olomouc for the best part of the time. I'll be looking at beavers. OTOH I've not got a clue what size Cz is. I just tend to look at maps and assume everything's roughly UK sized. Which was a bit silly in Australia.

Prague or Liberec?

All in Liberec, that's where most of my Cz mates are from.

Easy to get to from Prague though, get to Cerny Most tube station then get a Student Agency coach (like National Express but good) to Liberec. It's

100km, but the coach fare is 70Kc (about £1.70) and you get a drink, headphones to watch a DVD or listen to the radio, and a paper to read (if you read Czech, but they'll normally try and find something in English for you).

I'd meet up, but I'm not back in CZ until August. Driving over in the Golf, just for fun.

And that's just the retail outlet. Make that 1000% between factory and customer.
