Aren't GS300/Aristos aging better you might think.

Just doing the usual nose arround ebay to see if there was anything remotley interesting jap to post on the retro rides ebay thread.

But got drawn to the modernish Toyota/Lexus listings as you do. Now I'm loving the Saab at the moment. Apart from the AC being a bit dicky and blowing warm because the inside of the car is warm despite being gassed and holding, since I fitted that cheap silvercrest MP3 headunit it has been all good. I love it. And I said my next car would be diesel anyway.

I never liked the shape of the early GS when it was current. Something seemed wrong with it compared the IS and the LS, looked like an overblown Mazda 323 somehow and not nice with it.

But but it seems to be aging well and looking better all the time. And no, I'm not going to buy one. It would start me finding ways to spend silly money on making go round corners faster and flatter and do nothing for my bank balance on petrol, but I am loving the shape and fittings, especially the Aristo V300.

No.

It looked like a posh Daewoo at launch, and it still looks like a posh Daewoo. Just a very old posh Daewoo now.

That is just the reaction I expected from you. :P Security That has got the trouble makers out of the way.

I'll now take the serious opinions from the floor.

No.

Only the 450h makes any sense at all, and that's not much. Impressive to drive but interior is poorly laid out and looks and feels like a car fromt the class below.

I'd probably buy a 450h if the government made it worthwhile.

But he's right.

And the chances of that happening in this country are..?

I'm actually with you on this one. I won't be buying one, but I can see the attraction.

Notwithstanding the above, I would proably bottle it and buy something else at the last minute.

When the time comes I'll probably end up ignoring the need for diesel again, going in denial, look for a decent GS, then end up with a ropy aristo with an oil leak but a long mot and rough paint.

I have never really enjoyed the GSs styling/proportions from the outside and I still think the rear doors are a funny shape. I can only imagine that they go well and are comfy places to be cos the closest I've been to one is in the back of your LS.

I remember thinking that the IS looked good when it came out but in hindsight I think it was trying a bit too hard and I don't enjoy the look of them so much any more.

The slightest amount of snow used to seemingly immobilise ISs and left them fishtailing and wheelspinning along the kerbstones around Aberdeen when I lived there. I guess the japs don't 'get' snow, as Aberdeen isn't short of people who are used to driving in it. (c:

I like the idea of the excellent engineering, but I just don't think Lexus is my bag at the moment.

Yup 3 litre twin turbo. Apparently the box can handle upto 400BHP too so very tunable.
