does this make sense to anyone?

car will not fire on start up

have fuel, have spark. all well

turns but doesnt try to catch with a strong smell of petrol

disconnect all 4 injector plugs and car will start fine and run for a brief second or 2.

plug injectors back in fire and she dont go (back to start)

tried adjusting the fuelling to no avail

anyone care to throw a suggestion in the ring?

open to all ideas mechanical electrical or indian fire dances.

if you disconnect the injectors, why does it run?

i think what the problem is that there is a short in the loom somewhere and the injectors are either not firing at all or are flodding the eingine with one injector stuck open

If it runs with the injectors disconnected it's gotta be flooding, surely. So dodgy injector? Dodgy pressure regulator on the fuel rail (do they have one of these - the ZX did but is a later incarnation of the engine). Dodgy wiring in conversion somewhere?

Might be worth finding a 1.9 in a scrappy, removing loom and putting the whole thing into your 205 if the wiring is as dodgy as it sounds. Its a basic system and is obviously designed to fit a 205 so shouldnt be too hard.

Yup. I wouldn't keep removing the injectors though - pulling the fuel pump fuse out should be enough to get it to clear enough to start if turned over for a while.

just the injector plugs pulled off not the injectors out :)

Well whatever... probably easier to just pull the one fuse, than mess about getting at one of those.
