cat converter

Hi Anyone know if it's worthy buying a catalyst converter from one of the following sites:

Have a VW Golf 1.6 S 2000 (5 door), and the Cat needs replacing, VW quoted me =A3583 (inc Vat) which is a complete rip off, and this is before fitting, these sites are selling them for a lot less, 10% of the VW price actually! Kwik-Fit quoted me =A3365 including fitting, plus it comes with 3 year warranty for the whole exhaust system, not sure if they (cats) are any good, I don't want hassle even if I get a warranty.

So, anyone bought any cat converters from those sites, are they any good? Do they last, are they of high quality or will they break down 3 months later?

Many thanks E

De ju vu here we have a 1.6s 2001 car and the cat is rattling to death and are planning on getting it replaced. VW quote us just over £600!!!! aparantly though it is a design flaw on their part that its not a bolt off bolt on job they have to drop the subframe to do the job. Kwik fit £365 sounds cheap but I'm sceptical of their workmanship, might end up copsting you more when the muck it up. My advice is find a vw specialist.

I've never used any of those sites above I use gsfcarparts (google it) and I think a cat from them about £100 inc vat and its not a genuine part but a decent pattern type part.

Well, in the end, bought the cat converter (2 year warranty) and front pipe, with fitting kit for =A3150 inc delivery from onlineautomotive.co.uk, fitting cost =A350 (perhaps due to the fact that I know the mechanic), he said he had to drop off the subframe also, so =A3200 is a bargain compared to Kwik Fit (=A3365) or VW (nearly =A3600 just for the catalyst!!! - never bothered to ask about the fitting etc). Mechanic said that the cat converter seems decent, but of course, I'll find out over the next few months and years (if not weeks - i hope not!). No noise, it seems to have sorted out another problem as the exhaust pipe was slightly loose, whenever I hit the brakes, there was a snapping noise, now it's much smoother. E
