Citroen C4 HDi thing review.

Engine - gutless. The 110 HDi lump is quiet, good on fuel and reasonably smooth, but seems to do naff all unless it's between 2250 and 2500 rpm. Hopeless. Better on fuel than the Pious though. Gearchange is like a tighter version of a Xantia 'box.

Interior - interesting to look at, the digital dash display seems to work well, the rev counter on the wheel hub thing isn't very good, the fuel computer display is accurate and gives all the info about things that fuel computers should, but it's in the wrong place. Top half of the dash has this fake suedey type stuff that stops reflections in the windscreen, unfortunately the rest of the dash reflects horribly.

Seats - too short in the cushion, ok otherwise. Adjusters are irritating.

Wind noise - quiet if windows shut, hurricane force if even slightly open. Complete with buffeting not experienced since the days of the 205 GTi sunroof. Not ideal for a smoker..

Suspension, handling etc - Suspension is very quiet, well damped and seems to work, but does seem to be slightly too stiff or slightly too soft depending on the road. Weird. Handling wise it seemed ok, hard to tell really as it was mainly motorway and fast a-road work. Tucks in nicely when you lift off the throttle though.

"Rep factor" - Dash is not soft, appears to be about the same standard as that in a Transit Connect - plastic wise. Cupholders are crap, but there are two of them. For some unknown reason the cig lighter is between the two cupholders. No armrest. Didn't check the coat hooks. No rattles, but an annoying "Zing" from the seat belt adjuster.
